Mobiltesino x Francesca Girolami Studio: the DP House project
DP House by architect Francesca Girolami is the winning project of the BIG SEE 2024 award in the Residential category.
The BIG SEE Awards are one of the most prominent and widely followed competitions in the world of interior design, celebrating every year companies and individuals that manage to distinguish themselves through the creation of stylistically unique products.
What is the DP House project?
To explain it, let’s take the words of the architect herself:
Along the Adriatic coast, the 65-square-meter interiors of a multifaceted woman’s home reveal her personal essence.
Alessandro Mendini called it the emotional home – a home as stage and theatre for private life, “that scene where every room allows for change and the dynamics of attitudes and situations.”
The interior design, space distribution, furniture, and home décor are all conceived as anthropological projections of the customer, with every room designed to measure for her.
The boundary between the day and night areas often takes on different connotations in the domestic environment. In this case, we worked on its depth and inversion. It’s not just a wall, but an “active” partition that transforms, taking on various functions: it contains, hosts, displays and conceals objects. This boiserie serves the whole kitchen area and part of the living room, engaging with the opposing wall, whose design stems from a geometric play of shapes that repeat throughout the house and become three-dimensional, full of possibilities: shelves, bases, drawers, chairs, and open compartments.
The dividing element is an arch that leads to a small hallway, which opens into an explosion of different worlds and colours for all the other rooms. In sharp contrast to the monochrome of the day area, this “non-room” has two different shades of green that, combined with the striking change in flooring, warm up and hint at a cozier night area.
The doors are kept to a minimum, allowing the spaces to flow and coexist while maintaining their intimacy and function. The bedroom is where dreams, memories, old rituals, and unbridled romance take the stage. Its backdrop is an emotional landscape designed by illustrator Katia Fucci. A glass block backstage of the bedroom illuminates the otherwise windowless master bathroom and houses the shower behind it, turning into centre stage. Semi-matte tiles cover the bathroom up to the ceiling, capturing and trapping the light within.
The guest bathroom is a terrazzo tray, typical finish of many seaside flats, but with a wider grain and whose colours guided the selection of furniture and lighting.
The choice of Mobiltesino.
For this project, the architect chose to use products from the Mobiltesino collections to meet the customer’s specific needs with customized and tailored solutions. Thanks to the experience and craftsmanship of our Atelier, we created unique elements for both bathrooms, enriching their style and design, and fully satisfying the designer’s requests.
